Deputy Lands Minister meets World Teak Conference c’ttee on progress made

 



Meeting with the Teak Conference Committee

Ahead of the 4th World Teak Conference scheduled to take place in Accra from 5th - 8th September, 2022, the Deputy Minister responsible for Lands and Forestry, Benito Owusu-Bio has met with the Planning Committee in charge of the event to abreast himself with their preparations and readiness for the all-important conference.



He alerted the committee on the relevance of the conference to the Ministry, particularly to the Sector Minister, Samuel A. Jinapor, saying "this Conference is one of the few International ones to be held after COVID and the Minister is very particular about it so you need to put in your all".


Mr Owusu-Bio maintained that the Ministry is ready to support the global program to achieve its aim in every capacity.


Among others, the Deputy Minister tasked the committee to begin extensive publicity, ensuring that billboards, banners and other communication materials are printed and mounted at vantage points.



Mr Owusu-Bio put it before the committee to have Ghana own the conference by ensuring that more Ghanaian officials are made to facilitate discussions during the four-day conference.


He also suggested to the committee to hold their next meeting at the Ministry to brief the Sector Minister on preparation made.


The various committee members took turns to present to the Deputy Minister, progress made on publicity, budgetary support, regional processes and programme outlines.


The meeting which took place at the Forestry Commission head office on Tuesday, 16th August 2022, also had in attendance, the CEO of the Forestry Commission, Mr. John Allotey, the Technical Director, Forestry, Mr. Joseph Osiakwan and other officials from the Ministry.

Crocodiles stranded in Sissala - Severe drought hits water habitat

  Crocodiles are totems for some groups of people in Northern Ghana, particularly in the Sissala enclave of the Upper West Region. The people revere the crocodiles and, therefore, protect them from any harm. Aside the belief system, these reptiles have also put the area on the world tourism map. In fact, the Sissala enclave's contribution to tourism through these reptiles is legendary. The communities where these reptiles are found are Taffiasi, Bujan, Nabugujan, Gwollu Wuljua and Duu East, all in the Sissala West District, as well as the Sissala East Municipality. Drought  However, the lives of these crocodiles are under serious threat as the ponds and pools that serve as thier habitats are drying up. Side Chick Stabbed Cheating Husband

  The Police at Adenta in the Greater Accra Region are holding a young Ghanaian lady known on Instagram as Safina Diamond for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend. According to reports, Safina Diamond stabbed her boyfriend who just came back from Canada weeks ago multiple times in the neck and stomach leading to his death. It’s unclear what led to the incident as the Police have not officially stated reason for the action. the Report said the lady took the action allegedly in self-defence as she is currently being held by the Adenta Court. Unconfirmed reports indicated that the deceased is a married man, who left his wife to meet the suspect, who also has a boyfriend. Further reports indicated that the two persons, Safina, and her boyfriend have been remanded into police custody and the case adjourned to August, 12th, 2022.
