Isaac Dogboe beat American Joet Gonzalez on a split decision on Saturday in Hinckley, Minnesota

 


Grand Casino Hinckley in Hinckley, Minnesota - In a WBC featherweight eliminator, former world champion Isaac Dogboe (24-2, 15 KOs) edged a tough ten round split decision win over Joet Gonzalez (25-3, 15 KOs).



 

The scores were 96-94 for Gonzalez, 96-94 for Dogboe and 96-94 for Dogboe.


Dogboe was circling and boxing well in the first round, as Gonzalez was having trouble landing on the smaller man. Gonzalez did a little better in the second, but Dogboe was still controlling things. The third was closer, but it was Dogboe still outhustling him.



At the start of the fourth, Dogboe was rocked by a right hand. Gonzalez would then take the fight to Dogboe with a lot of punches coming from both hands. Dogboe was fighting him off as Gonzalez would charge inside. The fifth was close, with both having success. Gonzalez was letting his hands go more often during the sixth. He was landing more often and was forcing Dogboe to fight.



 

They were fighting in toe to toe fashion during the seventh, with Gonzalez landing the bigger punches. Gonzalez was pressing forward in the eight. There were a lot of punches flying from both, but Dogboe seemed to be connecting more often. In the ninth, Dogboe was boxing and moving. When they came in close, Dogboe was outworking Gonzalez in toe to toe exchanges.


In the tenth, Gonzalez was really taking the fight to Dogboe and appeared to have him in some trouble. Dogboe was tired, but still throwing back. Gonzalez was landing the more damaging punches.
